The Dutch Belted is a rare, ancient dairy breed recognized by its striking black – or rarely red – coat, with a wide white belt around its middle. Originating in the Netherlands in the 17^th century, these docile, long-lived cattle are prized for high-qualify milk and efficiency in grazing-based systems. Listed as “critical” by The Livestock Conservancy, they were nearly extinct in the 1970s but have seen a resurgence in popularity.
