Dairy Fact on Print:
Holsteins originated in the Netherlands over 2,000 years ago. Their breed was developed by crossbreeding black cattle from the Batavians and white cows from the Friesians. Holsteins are instantly recognizable with their distinctive black and white (or sometimes red and white) spotted coats. No two patterns are the same—each cow’s markings are unique! Holsteins are the top milk-producing breed in the world. A single Holstein cow can produce up to 9 gallons (34 liters) or more of milk per day!
