A personal note from Bonnie: Sherlock is a Suffolk Sheep, and she is 4 years old! Sheep are one of the oldest animals known to mankind. Sheep production began in biblical times and man learned how to spin wool in 3500 B.C. There are more than 40 breeds of sheep in the US and about 900 breeds around the world. Sherlock lives with a group of sheep which is called a flock. Baby sheep are known as lambs and sheep milk is often used to make gourmet cheese! Most sheep farmers sheer their sheep once each year in the spring and one pound of wool can make 10 miles of yarn.
