In the Community

With her five kids actively involved in church events, extracurricular activities, and sports, supporting the community and volunteering has always been a passion for Bonnie.

In 2012, Bonnie Mohr Studio was an artistic destination for the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School "Visual Arts Exhibition." Over 100 art students from the Minnesota State High School League for District 2A art competition visited the studio and learned about Bonnie's painting techniques, and more about the details of the art industry, including print-making and selling art.
Each year, Bonnie welcomes tour groups from all over the county and the state for an inside look at her gallery and a firsthand experience on her family dairy farm. Last summer, a community involvement program from McLeod County toured the Studio and the barns, learning about both the art of painting and the art of dairy farming.
In June 2012, 40 students from the 4-H Interstate Exchange program toured Bonnie Mohr Studio. The students were from Carver County in Minnesota and Cecil County in Maryland. Each year, students participate in this program, which consists of a "traveling exchange." In 2011, Carver County 4-H-ers traveled to Cecil County in Maryland, and last summer, the group of Maryland 4-H students came to spend six days in Minnesota.
In 2011, the first-annual Mileka's Run was held in Silver Lake in honor and memory of Mileka Hall, a nine-year-old girl who passed away from injuries suffered in an ATV accident in May of 2010. "Mileka's Run," is a 5K run/walk organized by her family and friends to celebrate Mileka's life and as a friend to the family and for the event, Bonnie donated 100 pink balloons to be released at the race start in Mileka's memory.
In August 2012, Bonnie participated in the 3-Day, 60-mile Susan G. Komen walk for breast cancer. She not only walked 60 miles in three days, but embraced the joy and fellowship of 1,400 other walkers, and raised over $2,500 towards breast cancer research.
This year, at the Spring Open House, Bonnie set up a food shelf donation site for the McLeod County Emergency Food Shelf, and 107 pounds of food were collected and several cash donations! Thank you to all for the support!
