Life Inspires Me!

My best days begin at 4am.  Getting two hours of painting in before I get the kids up for school make me happy inside and out. I am working hard right now on my next commission project, and so I awoke this morning at 3:45am, dressed quickly, followed my nose to the kitchen for a cup of freshly brewed Joe (life is great, now that I have learned how to program my coffee maker the night before : ) and was in my 'painting chair' by 4:05.  ... Hello, friends! Hope you are all finding yourself busy and back to daily routines - as January is already flying by!  While the holidays are always filled with a sort of magical ora, I find the enjoyment of the 'normal hum' and everyday routine just as satisfying and comforting. The kids are fully engaged, and back into school, with two weeks already tucked away...unbelievable, the year is half over already!!   I have resumed painting... CAN YOU TOP THIS? It’s Sunday afternoon, and I shouldn’t be working, but I am, because of a deadline hovering over my head.  After an abrupt interruption from the main floor (my studio is on the 2nd floor), I am back upstairs and will return to painting as soon as I finish this blog.  There came from downstairs, a very loud racket of clanking and banging.  I flew down the stairs sure the boys were either duking it out in the living... I removed the last pumpkins from the yard today….there is a chill in the air, and I feel the change of seasons coming on fast. Turning the clock’s back last night, sealed the deal. When I look outside at 5 p.m. and it is almost dark, there is no mistaking that winter will be here soon! Everyone at Bonnie Mohr Studio is busy adding final touches to the shop! We have decorated inside and out, and you can feel the holiday spirit all... Read More

I feel numb and tired as I type this….my goal is to not fall asleep as I do this blog and smash my face into the keyboard in front of me.  This is one of those Monday mornings, I’d rather still be in bed sleeping!  Last week proved to be one of the craziest ever, again!  Let me just start off with the highlight ….it was a monumental weekend of togetherness, family reunion, and celebration of my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary!  In our... Embracing August!  I would have to admit that this month is filled with more ‘hustle and bustle’ around our place than December!  This week is our county fair.  Our yard looks like a parade of sorts with each kid leading their animal in a different direction, cattle trotting to and from the ‘wash rack’, tractors and wagons delivering loads of hay and straw, and my own employees racing around the studio to pack for State Fair.  And just...   The duties of August fill our lives!  This is the month of the year that implores our time and attention for the many events that we have been preparing for since May!  The garden, the crops, and the fair take center stage around our place.  We spent the weekend picking tomatoes, cucumbers, and yes more green beans! Some of the cucumbers were sliced and diced and already eaten, while other were packed into jars and are transforming... Read More

It is the 9th of July, and I am feeling an ’inkle’ of... the ‘slip of summer’. I am always amazed at how fast time goes, and how much there is to do, and how many things I want to enjoy during the summer - and already sense that it is going by much to quickly. With the completion of the Hoard’s Dairyman project and the passing of the National Holstein Convention, I am feeling relief that I met my deadlines, the artwork was completed on... Read More

It’s early…....4:30am and as I’m waiting for the coffee to finish perking, I am looking at the beautiful wooden, hand-painted pot on my counter. It was a gift from my daughter Amanda. She arrived back home just 5 days ago, from a one week mission trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, along with three other local girls. My tear-filled eyes share in the sadness of the earthquake that has just stricken this poor country. The group coordinator of... Read More

It’s looking like Christmas here in Minnesota! Winter blasted in here last week, with a few inches of snow and the first “School Is Canceled – Snow Day” of the year!! I remember being a kid, there is not much that tops getting a Snow Day from school!! Pretty much everything here is frozen up now, we’ve even had our first sub-zero temps – so the season of “Long Johns and Hot Chocolate” is in full swing! FAMILY MATTERS,... Parents – have... There is something in the air this time of year, that I don’t notice during any other month,... it is a state of euphoria. Which is what?,... Joy, extreme happiness, excitement, exhilaration, jubilation! It is something that comes from your heart, deep inside. How does it happen? I believe it comes from putting money into the red buckets of the bell ringers at the Mall baking cookies for the shut-ins or those in treatment centers doing... Read More

The traditions of the Thanksgiving Holiday are especially wonderful to me. It is a unique time of the year that people celebrate family and friends without the commotion of gifts, decorations, extra baking, and all the hoopla that just about puts you over the edge! It is a day to reflect on the many blessings we have, rather than our problems. It makes our hearts happy and joyful for the abundance we have and the things God has given... Read More

Daylight Savings Time this weekend – yeah…! This ‘happening’ makes my TOP TEN List. My whole system seems to be more alive and productive with more daylight hours!! I even put a pair of shorts on yesterday just to celebrate the ‘soon to come’ arrival of spring/summer. AROUND THE STUDIO,... Most recently I was asked by Fr. Brian to help pick new paint colors for our church. A big job in my books! I first narrowed my choices to about 150... Read More

IN THE STUDIO,... In all honesty, I just haven’t been in the studio enough this past week to complete the next new painting. Perhaps I should be more discreet about it, but I’ve always believe that honesty is the best policy, thus – nothing new to show today!! We have some interesting things going on though and will have some fun news to share in the next few weeks! We’re also busy with inventorying and starting to get ready for the MN... Read More

DEDICATION,... Today’s blog is dedicated as a ‘Thank You’ to all the wonderful people who have touched my life in special ways, because of my artwork. Like most artists, there are times I struggle with feelings of – “Am I worthy? Is my work worthy? Does it mean anything to anyone?” And because my studio time is quite solitary, there is little interaction with anyone. I search for purposeful subject matter that will bring meaning to... Read More

A recent guest at Bonnie Mohr Studio shared something with me, and I’d like to share it with you. She was kind, polite, and just as beautiful on the inside as the outside. She and her friend meandered throughout the studio, enjoying every moment as they went, commenting on many things along the way. As she stepped to the register to check out, she expressed how happy she was that I’d decided to print the “Living Life” tree in notecards... Read More

IT’S BETTER TO give – than to receive. Our family is participating in helping to raise funds for the upcoming After Prom Party Event in our local town Glencoe, and we donated a Yellow Lab Puppy from Stella’s litter for Silent Auction this past weekend at the GSL Football Game! Our little “Panther Puppy” (Panthers is the name of our football team) brought $300, and went to a wonderful home in Glencoe. It feels good and is gratifying to... Read More
