Changing of Seasons

You're not going to believe this! On my return walk to the house this morning, from the studio - I SAW MY FIRST SPRING ROBIN! This is a record - March 9th!! Seeing the first robins of the spring put a delight in my heart like nothing else. I looked further into the backyard and saw a whole flock of them, ran to the house to get my camera and snapped this awesome picture just an hour ago ; )  Life really is about the little things for... Our Minnesota winter has arrived! After a unseasonably warm beginning to winter, our zero degree temps have finally arrive, and just in the nick of time according to my boys. They have been ready to go ice fishing for 3 months already - and the balmy December temps were NOT in good order with them or any other ice-fishing folks! These are the temperatures in which our 'expecting moms' also get extra care and are on close surveillance.... Read More

I'm not sure why the week of 'in between Christmas and New Years' is both joyful and unsettling to me all at the same time. But it is. Every year.  It feels like both the moment of judgment day and the exhilaration of the first day of school, all rolled into one. Like sweet and salty. Like the 'churn up' and the 'flight down' of a rollercoaster.  Like the calm before the storm. Unless you are wandering completely aimlessly through life... Read More

Face to Face Autumn by Bonnie Mohr I don't ever remember mowing the lawn in November!! We have yet to have a killing frost in MN - what a beautiful autumn we have had and continue to enjoy ;) This means that yes...we are still mowing lawn, raking leaves, digging the carrots out of the garden, and putting up Christmas decorations all at the same time - no wonder I am confused! Throw into this mix that it is deer hunting season around... Read More

The country side and beauty of rural America hits a premium this time of year. I just couldn't resist sharing a snap of our girls out on pasture the other day.  Our cows enjoy 'pasture therapy' each day from around 11am - 3 pm, our version of stomp-drop-roll, run, play, bully and snort away, and release all the tension of their 2x a day milking job! We encourage our cows to work out their problems on pasture, enjoy the sunshine, and... Read More

It's a new year with high hopes and big expectations, if you can get through the winter without freezing to death that is. Seriously — from body to brain, most of us here in Minnesota have experienced some degree of freezer burn already this winter. Schools have been canceled several times, and there are more cars in the ditch due to icy road conditions than on the road. Ten miles to town this morning, and the car was still blowing... Read More

Dear Friends, Well, it certainly is a Jingle Bells Event in MN right now....winter has arrived — beeping its horn! Most of the state has now been blanketed with anywhere from 3 inches to 10 inches of snow, and a howling wind to go with it. For those of us who live down a country gravel road,  driving is near treacherous! Over the years however, I have learned a few things. Deep, but soft and fluffy snow means go slow, and you will... It's a first for Bonnie Mohr Studio — we're endorsing our Holiday Open House this weekend with an electronic billboard in St. Boni, MN! No doubt, it is our closest experience to being "up in Hollywood lights"  — so I thought we'd show it off! As we were passing through town last night, our first snowfall of the season was also gracing the billboard event! Ugh...it sure seems too early for snow, but it was festive as our Open House... It's the great debate — "Should we print a new catalog? Or not?" In our propelling world of computers, wireless technology, and social media, it seems to be the million dollar question. Do people still look at catalogs? Do they still want them? We conclude, "YES!" We've had lots of requests for a new catalog, and so we are moving forward on these requests. Our new catalog is in the finishing stages as we speak (or rather, as you read... Read More

This is my favorite month of the year! First of all – the cooler nights are such a joy. Sleeping with the windows open, digging out your favorite sweatshirt, and burning pumpkin scented candles in the house all add to the fullness of this season – AUTUMN. Oh, and let's not forget FOOTBALL! Everyone in MN is already fully engaged! And even though I am shy to promote my age, it is my birthday month and I have come to learn that the... Read More

I reluctantly look at the calendar today and realize that summer is slipping away, quickly! Each year, about now, I go into my "Wow! I can’t believe summer is almost over!" mind set. Again, I use the word "bittersweet" – With lingering thoughts of the many great summer joys and events we celebrated, comes the anticipation of my most loved season of all – AUTUMN! The signs of summer’s end are everywhere! The oat and wheat fields are... Read More

Dearest Blog Readers, Today is another gorgeous day in sunny Minnesota, and although I should be writing about my painting and what makes me an artist, I'd rather share some of the summer joys of life! These are the days to drink sun-brewed tea, go to the lake, and gorge yourself with homemade peach pie!! If you don't know how to make sun-brewed tea, don't worry — it is so easy, your first-grader could make it! Throw 6 Lipton tea bags... Read More

Things are hot, the crops and gardens are growing, and vacations are happening – IT’S SUMMER! I just got back from a short trip out east – what a lovely state Pennsylvania is, and how fun to be in the east over the 4th of July! Visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Valley Forge, and Lancaster County were a few of my stops. I spent my 4th of July at Penn State in State College, and now I know why they are ranked third in the country... Read More

Winter has arrived, and with a capital "W." Twelve inches of snow fell this past weekend, and shut down a good share of southern MN for Sunday.  We made it to church, and were homebound for the rest of the day.  There is a strange calm that accompanies a snowstorm, especially if you are tucked indoors.  The world seems to slow down for the day, and the pace changes a bit.  I found myself getting back into my comfy checkered pajama... Hello all you Halloween Fans! Calling all creative photographers.....I am searching for the perfect house setting for my next painting.....Yes, Halloween style! The ideal house photo would be the look of a slightly ghoulish, abandoned, haunted jewel!  A dilapidated chimney, broken window and perhaps a tombstone in the front yard would all be ideal characteristics of this charming little place. I have long thought about doing a... Read More
